Searchbox technology helps to find R&D funding

The Opportunity-Finder provides a unique platform in Europe enabling access to public funding information such as individual open research grants from the 7th Framework Program and research partnership opportunities. It suits the need of NCP and EEN members, who need a quick and efficient access to all of these information sources.
 
The semantic technology from searchbox enables to match and interlinks pieces of content based on the actual meaning of research projects, significantly reducing the time required to identify the correct grant or research partner. Through the online application, users can perform full-text or semantic search queries and then navigate through the results via defined filters. When viewing an individual document, the Opportunity-Finder will automatically suggested a list of related opportunities – including other funding projects and cooperation partners – based on its analysis of the text meaning.
 
The development of the Opportunity-Finder was started in 2010 by Euresearch, the Swiss access point to European research and innovation and the Swiss support for European business and innovation. Euresearch noticed that researchers were struggling to find the appropriate programme in a steadily increasing number of European funding initiatives. Accessing more than a dozen of different repositories and manually sort through this information to select the most appropriate opportunity is tedious and time consuming. For this reasons, Euresearch and Searchbox joined forces in order to deliver the Opportunity-Finder, a semantic-enabled tool helping researchers sort and through this maze of information.
