Mikajaki EyeLib

Developed by MIKAJAKI, EyeLib is the world’s first automated ophthalmic diagnostic platform delivering comprehensive eye health pre-diagnosis and patient triage. Following this announcement, the Geneva-based start-up is proceeding with a limited commercial product rollout.

Founded in 2018, MIKAJAKI is a Geneva-based medtech start-up dedicated to re-engineering eye healthcare using digital technologies, robotics & artificial intelligence. The start-up developed EyeLib, an automated ophthalmic diagnostic platform which combines automation and artificial intelligence to create a proprietary data algorithm that accurately analyzes and diagnoses eye health conditions.

The EyeLib automates and optimizes the entire eye diagnostic and testing process thereby significantly improving operating efficiency at eye clinics and health institutions. With a more straightforward and shorter eye diagnostic process for both patients and eye doctors, the EyeLib promises to deliver a better quality of care, reduced waiting times, improved patient access, and lower costs.

MIKAJAKI has now obtained the CE Mark for the EyeLib. Completed in September, the CE mark certification process required intensive lab-testing, followed by clinical feasibility studies that showed how the system works and how patients responded to it. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with patients describing their experience as ‘fast’, ‘effective’, and ‘comfortable’.

“We set out to go from initial product concept to CE mark in just two years – and we have achieved this important milestone,” said Jacky Hochner, MIKAJAKI’s CEO and Co-founder. “This achievement faced a number of challenges, including the COVID-19 crisis. But our team’s incredibly hard work has paid off, and we were rewarded with this amazing success story”, added Michael Assouline, MD, PhD, President and Co-founder.

EyeLib’s first installation took place at  Assouline’s eye clinic in Paris. The team at Centre IénaVision is actively working with EyeLib and has been introducing it to patients. This represents a big first step in MIKAJAKI’s ambitious plan to revolutionize ophthalmic diagnostics.

MIKAJAKI is actively partnering with ophthalmic clinic groups globally to test and implement EyeLib. It has already signed contracts with more than 15 major European ophthalmic centres and ophthalmic device manufacturers.
