World map

The world is an open playground for startups seeking bigger growth opportunities. Cleantech startups Aqua4D and Capt’n Greenfin have expanded into Chile and Germany with their water-related solutions, while drone specialist Voliro and medtech startup Aseptuva went to the US and UK.

Water scarcity issues in Chile are widely recognized, as is the need to improve the efficient use of resources for irrigating crops and green areas. Switzerland-based company AQUA4D aims to maximize outputs with minimal inputs. Its AQUA4D technology treats the water to improve hydration and dissolution, with a cascade of benefits on resource use, soils and plants. Water savings of 20% on average are observed, as well as efficiencies in fertilizer use and solving long-standing salinity issues. Thanks to the dissolution of minerals, continued irrigation with salt-saturated water is possible. Better-quality water can be used for human consumption instead of irrigation, thus giving a tangible social benefit.

Having been present in Chile since 2018 and after successful marquee projects and collaborations, the company has established an official entity in Chile, AQUA4D LatAm, with a regional office and a team in Santiago. This move comes after the company opened a subsidiary in California, USA.

Captn’ Greenfin enters the German market
With over 500 products already sold in Switzerland in the first three months, Captn’ Greenfin has continued to harvest positive feedback from fishermen. The startup developed sustainable fishing baits as an alternative to plastic-free fishing lures to combat microplastics in water bodies. As of June, the startup will start operations in Germany, producing and shipping its products locally. The expansion is one of the several achievements of the Bern-based startup. In addition to winning awards, the company has secured a CHF 260,000 grant from Innosuisse to support its 18-months research project. In collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland, the startup will enhance its Greenfin materials.

Aseptuva incorporates in the UK
Aseptuva, the startup using in-situ UV-based disinfection technology to fight Hospital Acquired Infections, has incorporated a subsidiary in the United Kingdom. The new company, “Aseptuva Ltd”, in Cambridge, sets the foundation to explore the UK market in the next years and supports the healthcare needs of NHS. Furthermore, this expansion will give Aseptuva, as stated in its LinkedIn post, access to highly qualified graduates in the UK as new team members, enable efficient collaboration in R&D with renowned UK universities and hospitals, access to available research grants from UKRI and NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) and accelerated fundraising process through UK investors.

Voliro goes to North America
The zurich-based startup, Voliro, which offers advanced flying inspection robots for safe and efficient work at height, and MFE Inspection Solutions, a leading provider of advanced inspection technology, have partnered to bring Voliro T drone into the US market. Designed for service providers and asset owners alike, the Voliro T promises safety, efficiency, and speed, with zero personnel exposure to height risks and up to 50 times faster operation compared to conventional methods. Whether inspecting wind turbines, heavy industry infrastructure, or power grids, Voliro T’s end-to-end digital workflow and geo-located inspection data streamline the process while offering real-time insights into users’ critical infrastructure.
