Weconnex's NEXUS project fosters the development among rural fishermen and small-scale farmers. The startup has obtained the 'Solar Impulse Efficient Solutions Label' in recognition for their promising and innovative solution that meets high standards of both sustainability and profitability.
WECONNEX is a Swiss service and project management firm aspiring to contribute to the achievement of global sustainable development goals (SDGs). Through NEXUS the company brings know-how and technical solutions to rural areas and ensures that they unfold their full effect and generate value for the community. The ultimate goal of NEXUS projects is to upgrade the lives of rural communities in BoP (Base of te Pyramid) markets. Weconnex has created and implemented the NEXUS Concept in various developing countries and helped partners to develop sustainable solutions through consulting and cross-sector collaboration.
The St. Gallen based startup has been awarded the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label in recognition for the potential and innovativeness of their NEXUS solution. The Efficient Solution Label is an initiative of Bertrand Piccard and the Solar Impulse Foundation that seeks to recognise 1000 efficient solutions worldwide that are logical, create jobs and generate profit while also reducing polluting emissions and preserving natural resources. The Efficient Solution Label, therefore, serves as a new and credible symbol that can be applied to products, processes and services and serves as a guarantee of quality to those looking to implement clean solutions, and affords a competitive edge to the innovators behind them.
All solutions are assessed by experts in the categories of Technological Feasibility, Environmental & Socio-Economic Benefits and Economic Profitability. To this day, 175 solutions worldwide have obtained the label including swiss made solutions like Weconnexs Nexus.
Elaborating on the significance of the label, Weconnex, states in their blog, "Our business model was assessed by independent experts and challenged in different criteria. The label boosts our credibility and visibility. It also encourages us because it proves that we are on the right track and involved in addressing the big challenges of the future with our NEXUS Concept.”
According to the startup, the expert team was particularly convinced by the ‘user-friendliness’ of Weconnex solution. The expert team particularly acknowledge the Time Weconnex devotes to educating the local community in best agricultural and fishing practices including lengthy community consultations to hand pick relevant technologies based on their needs, such as irrigation, fishing nets, fresh water, desalination or ice manufacturing.
