Spun off the itk.swiss group in Geneva, QRCrypto created in May 2019 is expanding its activities throughout the country and beyond in the US and India. The Swiss Cybersecurity startup provides quantum resistant cryptography solutions for safer and more secure connected objects.

The Internet is insecure with breaches and crime up to 30% and more, says QRCrypto CEO Stiepan Aurélien Kovac. The government, banks and medical institutions are in a state of emergency due to ever-rising cyber threats. Specifically in the context of 5G bringing ever higher transmission speeds with an ever quicker reaction time, it stresses the need for highly secure solutions. QRCrypto provides them in a straightforward technical approach. Furthermore, 5G+ security now and after 2023 and the advent of cryptanalysis-relevant quantum computers, needs Swiss security and neutrality through the establishment of a trusted actor.

Taking cybersecurity to the quantum level

QRCrypto means Quantum Resistant Cryptography for safer and more secure connected things, a solution recognized as the one and only good practice in a security guideline (ITU-T X.1811) published by ITU, the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies, for quantum-safe 5G, below and beyond. The Fribourg born startup provides privacy-friendly, secure videoconferencing AAAMeet.in and its companion mobile app, "Devaaa", available in all countries where QRCrypto is operating.

Speaking of use cases, QRCrypto is not a traceability solution, but its technology can be used to secure such solutions. The company has an exclusive licensing agreement with a US company in a related matter, with similar deals in the pipeline around the world. Demand has led the startup to extend its activities on markets such as South Africa, the United States or India, with select partners, including the former CEO of Tata Telecom Prashant Mishra, along with several select Indian experts with international experience to develop in the IPAC region. QRCrypto Indian branch is also set to lead the development of next-generation chips embedding its technology, for a Quantum-Resistant world. Further collaboration with the US on a higher level is expected as well by the company, now that Switzerland made the bold choice of acquiring F-35 fighter jets.

Leveraging East Asian and US demand

Market extension is currently driven by need, which is often said to be the mother of invention, says CEO Stiepan Aurélien Kovac. It is actually the pandemic combined with the Sino-Indian border clashes that led the company to develop in record time AAAMeet.in, and with proven results of allowing safe international videoconferencing without reliance on Chinese software or infrastructure.

Fueling ambitious projects

As the QRCrypto’s CEO explains, the US and India activity extensions will enable manufacturing lines of its next generation chips, to be followed by full-fledged factories once the startup goes IPO. The startup has also bold ambitions in the automotive sector with the support of its East Asian countries keen on following ITU-T guidelines, especially as it relates to cybersecurity and privacy protection. The goal for the company is clear: have each and every new connected vehicle equipped with its technology by 2023, with the possibility of retrofitting existing vehicles.
