The Kandou team has developed a technology that increases the speed of communcation between processors and memory, printers or other peripherals. At the same time the technology reduces the energy consumption. The company from Lausanne closed a first financing round. Investors were not disclosed.

Kandou has developed a new approach to serial link design that increases the bit rate for a given physical communications link. With this technology more bits can be sent per unit of energy, or less energy can be used to achieve a given bit rate. For common high speed links, speed increases on the order of 400% or bus power reductions to 25% are readily achievable and will yield meaningful net design and manufacturing cost reduction as well. These gains are complementary, thus additive, to known advanced serial link design techniques in use today.

Kandou is a spin-off from EPFL. It was founded by Amin Shokrollahi and Harm Cronie in 2011. Amin Shokrollahi, CEO of Kandou, has been at the forefront of research in information communication for the last 20 years. A Fellow of IEEE, he has published 100+ papers and books, and 50+ patents in the area of information transmission. He was the Chief Scientist of Digital Fountain, a company specializing in transmission of data on unreliable networks, which was acquired by Qualcomm, Inc., in 2009.
