The European Commission has today for the first time presented calls for projects under Horizon 2020. Horizon 2020 - the successor to the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) - is the prominent funding programme. It runs from 2014 to 2020 with a €70.2 billion budget.

Horizon 2020 is part of the drive to create new growth and jobs in Europe. The first calls cover all priorities of the new framework programme of the European Union. The association of Switzerland to H2020 is underway and will be retroactive so Swiss researcher and companies should not miss an opportunity to participate.

The Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2014-15 sets out the funding opportunities under the different parts of the programme; all are being published today on the Participant Portal. Each part describes the overall objectives, the respective calls, and the topics within each call. Each topic describes the challenge to be addressed, the scope of the activities to be carried out, and the expected impacts to be achieved.

Eureseach is organising a Launch Event about H2020 on 14 - 17 January 2014 together with the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation. There are still some places left on www.launch-h2020.ch. This launch event will give participants a detailed understanding of what has really changed in H2020, and will include trainings for proposers as well as first-hand information from the European Commission and National Contact Points as well.
