Founded as a spin-off from the ETH Zurich and EMPA, Chiral Nano is developing a new solution to seamlessly integrate nanomaterials, a key aspect relevant to producing high-quality electronic devices. The Engineering startup has won the third stage of Venture Kick, winning CHF 150,000 to support its next steps.

The chip industry is eager to incorporate nanomaterials like carbon nanotubes, graphene, and molybdenum disulfide into semiconductor devices, enabling pioneering technologies. The nanoelectronics market, currently worth USD 200 billion, is set to double in the next five years. Yet, the key obstacle is the slow production of nanoelectronic devices.

Seoho Jung (CEO), Natanael Lanz (CTO and COO), and Andre Butzerin (CPO), founders of Chiral Nano, are stepping up to address this challenge. Leveraging their expertise in nanotechnology, automation, and high-precision engineering, the team is developing a technology that allows organisations to grow, select and fully automatically integrate nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes of graphene into transistors at high speed, high quality and with complete process control. The solution will speed up the nanotransistor fabrication rate at an industrial scale.

The startup has already achieved a remarkable increase in the speed of producing nanotube-based devices. With a clear R&D roadmap, they are gaining customers in different sectors ranging from quantum technology to sensors. The ETH/Empa spin-off is gearing up for significant growth, including expanding its core team with scientists, engineers, and business managers.

The CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick will allow the company to expand its development capacities and hire key professional services to enter new markets. Reflecting on their experience during the Venture Kick program, Seoho Jung, CEO and Co-Founder of Chiral Nano said the team had a diverse audience of experts since joining the program, allowing them to get insightful feedback. “We started with Venture Kick Stage 1 at the beginning of 2023 and are closing the year by unlocking Stage 3. We are confident we have grown into a much stronger team.”
