Amicomed developed the first fully digital consumer hypertension lifestyle modification program. With its solution, the startup has been selected by Launchpad Digital Health – Ground Zero (LDH-GZ) to join its first program in Silicon Valley to help solve US’ high blood pressure epidemic.

The Lugano based startup Amicomed is the only European startup that has been selected to join the LDH-GZ program launched by LaunchPad Digital Health in San Franscisco. Amicomed will further advance its hypertension solution to help United States tackle the spreading high blood pressure epidemic. According to the US Center for Disease Control, 70 million American adults have hypertension but only 50% of them have it under control. Hypertension is one of the most expensive healthcare risks in the US with costs of more than 47 billion dollars per year. Managing this risk can result in significant cost savings across the board.

“Amicomed’s hypertension management service will benefit greatly from this digital health program to enhance our ambitious and innovative project, making it accessible to the US population with hypertension”, says Giangiacomo Rocco di Torrepadula, CEO and co-founder from its new office on Mission Street in San Francisco.

Amicomed’s solution enables users to manage their blood pressure through a 3-month lifestyle modification program. The program (available both online and inside an App) empowers users to master high blood pressure while changing their lifestyle in terms of diet and physical exercises. The program sets weekly goals and recommends a daily diet and physical activities to carry out –tailored for each individual user considering their habits and needs – and also reminds them when to measure their blood pressure. Amicomed gives the user the feeling that they are taking care of their blood pressure with the help of a dietician and personal trainer.

The Amicomed program is designed and positioned to be adopted by large clients such as health insurance companies, self-insured employers and government based health and wellness programs and from all care providers aiming to address healthy behaviours in managing chronic disease. The program was in Italy and the results have already presented at medical conferences including the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Hypertension and at international congresses such as ANMCO (Italian National Association of Cardiologists, 2016), ESH (European Society of Hypertension, 2015), ACC (American College of Cardiology, 2016) and ASH (American Society of Hypertension, 2016).
