Privately, the Vaud startup led by Deepak Tewari, has launched this week AgeAI, its anonymous age estimation application directed at retailers. Capable of running on any modern Android phone or tablet (iOS to follow soon) - AgeAI takes the guesswork out of age checks and assists retail staff through a simple visual indication about whether an age check is required or not. Based on its certified and GDPR compliant, fully privacy-preserving FaceAssure technology- AgeAI is for retailers looking for prevention of sales of restricted goods to children while reducing friction related to ID checks for adults. The anonymous age-check app is currently being launched in the UK and Ireland markets.
It is estimated that an ID check can take up to 2-3 minutes of a cashier's precious time in a retail store. What if AI could reliably confirm someone is above 25 and make the whole process friction-less for adults while preventing sales of vapes, alcohol, knives, lottery tickets and other restricted goods to minors.
To simplify age checks, the AgeAI app is installed in store devices in a way that the cashier can view the main screen while customer faces are visible to the device cameras. They choose the age gate for 25, 30 or 35 year olds. The app offers then easy 'Traffic-Light' Green/Red color code system so that the staff will immediately know whether to ask customers for their ID or not.
Pioneering age estimation
The Swiss specialist in age estimation and online safety technologies has been developing key child protection technologies.
