The 12-month program, taking place at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area in Courroux, aims to bring medtech ventures to the next level. The selected start-ups are active in very different fields. They develop bone and joint implants, drug coatings and a wearable for emergency situations.

DayOne Tech is an innovative 12-months program for medtech ventures that brings together universities, corporations, manufacturers, startup founders, research institutes, and hospitals to create a dynamic environment to foster innovation. Ventures in the DayOne Tech profit from the manufacturing industry in the Jura region, where this program takes place. Each startup has different needs depending on its stage of development, the class of the medical device, its target markets, and customer groups but also the strengths and weaknesses of its team. In order to match the specific needs of each venture and team, the DayOne Tech Accelerator has been created.

Winners of the second edition include:

  • Based on its microcontainer films INCAPTEK develops drug coatings for medical devices with a controlled drug release function in the patient's body. The basis is a coaxial electrospray microencapsulation technology that enables INCAPTEK to programme the microcapsules’ shells to achieve the controlled release of encapsulated substances. The substances are being released at a specific time, prolonged drug release or release triggered by pH, temperature, ultrasound, or light, brining efficacy to an entirely different level. The programmed-shell microcapsules are unique on the market.
  • Connect41 develops applications and solutions using NFC technology. Its product Safe Me, is a NFC bracelet allowing emergency health personnel (physicians, firemen, ambulance personnel) to use the information contained in this secure bracelet to save precious time in diagnosing or performing life-saving actions. Commercialisation will start in Switzerland in 2023 and Europe in 2024.
  • KA-DEC specializes in implantology with product sales in the Middle East, particularly in Turkey. The company will use the medtech accelerator to develop new medical products and to increase its control over the entire value chain of existing products.
