Multilingual meeting technology and services provider Interprefy unveiled Interprefy Aivia, the world's first advanced automated speech translation service for online and live events last wednesday at the the Event Tech Live in Las Vegas. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the new tool can pick up and translate speech and captions to global audiences in real-time and with high accuracy.

Interprefyand its team of 150 people has been supporting global businesses, institutions, NGOs, and even SMEs in reaching global audiences and facilitating truly multilingual conversations. The company built a cloud-based software for conference interpreters and sign language interpreters, regardless of their location, to deliver Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) services to global audiences in their preferred language choice in real-time via desktop or mobile and on-demand or post-event replay. Since 2015, the company has supported over 50’000 meetings and events worldwide. Global organisations such as UEFA, Google and GlaxoSmithKline, as well as the White House in the United States, have used the service.

With the launch of Aivia, Interefy has unveiled the next-generation artificial Intelligence based translator able to pick up and translate speech in real-time, bringing accurate, AI-translated audio, captions and subtitles to global audiences in their language at the touch of a button.

To ensure accuracy, the Interprefy AI teams have built a proprietary AI benchmarking platform to evaluate the best AI technology for each language combination. Further, the company has built a glossary extraction tool to prepare engines with event- and customer-specific terminology.

“Interprefy Aivia is complementary to our offering, especially catering to organizations and events lacking the budget for professional simultaneous interpreters. Our AI solution provides real-time AI-translated audio and captions at a lower cost. Both Aivia and RSI services can be delivered through our integration with over 70 event and meeting platforms as well as made available for in-person audiences,” says Markus Aregger, Head of Marketing at Interprefy.

Aivia completes Interprefy's world-renowned end-to-end remote simultaneous and sign language interpretation offering by providing a cost-effective AI-powered real-time translation solution for scenarios like webinars, training, town halls, or conferences. The solution will be available in 24 languages and regional accents initially, with many more to come in the near future, and is immediately available for in-person audiences as well as for major platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and ON24.

According to Oddmund Braaten, CEO, AI is no substitute for professional interpreters in certain scenarios: “Especially in diplomatic conversations, or regulatory sessions, a skilled linguist will continue to outperform AI, as they are able to read the audience and provide nuanced localisation to accommodate sarcasm, humour, or idioms.”
