Scientific Visual provides innovative optical liquids for quality control in gems and crystals. The company announced that it is among the three finalists of the Prix LausanneTec - the Swiss award for watch industry innovation.

The fluids of Scientific Visual allow you to ‘look’ inside and precisely locate internal defects in industrial and jewellery gemstones before processing, which reduce waste, improve quality and increase the profitability of gem cutters.

Non-polished sapphire pieces are not transparent so their internal flaws cannot be detected by visual inspection. They have to be fully processed i.e. cut into thin wafers or pieces, sliced and polished before undergoing visual inspection. So flaws are detected at a very late stage of the process making the cost of waste high due to the processing cost.

The product of Scientic Visual called Liquid Sapphire changes this. It is a non-toxic liquid which instantly reveals defects in non-polished synthetic sapphires and rubies for direct observation.

The company, founded in 2010 and based in Lausanne, is among the three finalists of the «Prix suisse de l’innovation LAUSANNETEC», the Swiss award for watch industry innovation. The prize is worth CHF 10’000 and the winners will also profit from communication measures. The winner will be announced on March 27th.
