The drone landscape has continued to evolve with more applications and a growing demand across sectors. Swiss startups continue to contribute to this development. Dufour is deploying its uncrewed aerial systems in a new project with partners, Drone Harmony found a new base in the US while Fixpisition aims to curb the Japanese market with its positioning technology for autonomous vehicles.

Dufour Aerospace is part of the Swiss-Austrian consortium that joined forces to test large-area laser scanning applications in the Swiss Alps over several months using innovative drones. Currently, aeroplanes and helicopters are used for large-scale, high-resolution laser scanning. The Swiss startup, which develops efficient and sustainable aircraft for cargo transportation, logistics and public safety, will support the project with its 3-metre-wingspan AeroMini and 6-metre-wingspan Aero2 UAS platforms. “This is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of our AeroMini and Aero2 vertical take-off-and-landing uncrewed aerial systems in relevant applications”, said Thomas Pfammatte, Co-founder and CEO of Dufour Aerospace.

Drone Harmony enters the US market
Zurich-based startup Drone Harmony has established a presence in the US market to strengthen its global presence and bring its automation software for data acquisition workflows in the commercial drone market closer to customers in the Americas. This expansion comes at a time of unprecedented growth and the increasing adoption of drones across various industries, coupled with the growing demand for advanced solutions that streamline operations, enhance efficiency and deliver actionable insights. In line with entering the US market, the startup has appointed Adam Saciuk to the role of Chief Operations Officer for North America. He brings over twenty years of pioneering experience in industrial operational optimisation, inspection, and drone program design, implementation, and execution, making him a valuable asset for the startup.

Fixposition taps into the Japanese market
With its Vision-RTK 2 product, Fixposition addresses many of the challenges faced by global positioning. The product incorporates deep sensor fusion technology, seamlessly combining RTK-GNSS, computer vision, and IMU data. Overcoming limitations posed by GNSS signals in challenging scenarios such as beneath tree canopies, between skyscrapers, and through tunnels, Vision-RTK 2 consistently delivers reliable centimeter-level positioning to various applications irrespective of environmental conditions. Applications range from lawnmowers and forklifts, tractors to urban robots and drones.

In addition to the recently opened e-commerce shop for US customers, Fixposition continues to expand its distributor network. To reach the Japanese market, the startup has joined forces with Enabler Japan, a pioneering provider of positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) solutions. Leveraging its expertise in business development within the domains of IoT and ICT, Enabler will support Fixposition to expand into agriculture, industry, mapping, and autonomous robotics sectors.
