Viroblock has developed a unique anti-microbial fabric which inactivates H5N1 and other enveloped viruses on pass through air. The company announced the launch of a revolutionary respiratory mask which traps and kills immediately pathogenic viruses and bacteria.

Airborne Pathogens are a major problem today. Humans expel particles during coughing, sneezing or even talking. The face mask of Viroblock solves this problem. Unlike other face masks the Viroblock mask can kill enveloped viruses, such as H1N1, H5N1 and SARS, on pass through air.

The mask is based on a novel anti-viral technology which Viroblock has developed and that is both rapid acting and broad spectrum. Applied to non-woven fabric, the technology is particularly suitable for air filtration products. In fact, previous work has shown Viroblock fabric to kill over 99.9% of H5N1 (bird flu) viruses when challenged in standardised aerobiology experiments.

The mask is only one product which can be developed based on the Viroblock technology. The fabric can also be used for respirators, medical air filters, air conditioning filters, etc. But the Viroblock technology can also be formulated into liquid and gel forms. It can be used for antiseptic and disinfectants applications as well as infection control or cleaning applications. These include cold sore strips, diapers coatings, veterinary applications or anywhere that topical anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties are required.

Viroblock was founded in 2005 and awarded the CTI Start-up label in 2010.
