Some specs of BMW’s newly unveiled its BMW M Hybrid V8 come from Switzerland - Its iconic kidneys’ lighting uses L.E.S.S. SA technology. Wearables company polar also partnered with Lausanne-based startup Alogo on integrating their scientifically validated technologies to advance fitness tracking for horses.

L.E.S.S. SA (Light Efficient Systems), founded in 2021 developed a new approach as an alternative to LED lighting where light is generated by a nano-active optical fibre trigged by a laser. This provides ultra-bright and ultra-uniform light within a very small form factor such that it considerably saves weight and energy when embedded in a car. Through its technologies, the company is has proven itself as a disrupting alternative to LED technology setting a new standard of lighting quality.

BMW Motorsport uses the technology for the kidney lighting of its newly unveiled LMDh of the BMW M Hybrid V8 Kidney, which will participate in two races at Sebring International Raceway (USA) and Petit Le Mans. Yann Tissot, CEO of L.E.S.S. SA said, “We are pleased to have reached this new milestone in the collaboration. It has been an intense and efficient collaboration between L.E.S.S. and BMW. We are very proud to have been able to deliver not only a new iconic light but also a true functional light to support the driver performance. The whole team is excited to see the debut of the LMDh in January 2023 in Daytona.”

Philipp Eng, Austrian professional racing driver and BMW Motorsport works driver said: “My first impression was that the kidney lighting looks really cool, and I was very surprised when the engineers told me that it’s not only a visual highlight but that its light will be a huge help for me as a driver. That was clearly confirmed when I first tested it at night. Although the kidney lighting is very thin, it shines extremely brightly. I was impressed by the engineering skills in this area. I’m sure it will be a valuable asset in the endurance races.”

First ever fitness tracking for horses
Moving beyond heart rate measuring technologies, wearable company Polar also provides tracking solutions for horses through its Polar Equine HR monitor. The device allows users to accurately use its gold standard of HR measurement to understand better their horse's exertion levels during exercise and monitor their resting and recovery heart rates, resulting in a better analysing of the horse’s fitness level and heart rate recovery over time in a safe manner.

The new partnership between Polar Electro Oy and Alogo Analysis. Allows riders for the first time ever, to combine two highly accurate devices: the Polar Equine HR and Alogo Move Pro. Users can now monitor their horse's heart rate through Alogo's App.

Alogo Analysis is a High-Tech Lausanne-based company that develops analytics tools for the equine industry. The startup has modernized equestrian sports with new technologies such as its products such as the Alogo LIVE, aimed at competition organizers and the public.
