Nick Balestra, CEO and founder of Beyounic — a Ticino based startup won a hackathon organised by Uber and Hack Reactor last weekend. The team will have the chance to meet with Uber’s engineering team to further discuss the project’s potential.

The Uber hackathon has been opened to the participants of the Hack Reactor program, a coding program that allows participants from all over the world, including remote attendees, to join. “I’m attending the Hack Reactor remote program because I eagerly needed to challenge myself and learn something new, or at least learn something in ways I could immediately use into my daily tasks as a software engineer and tech founder”, says Nick Balestra.

During the hackathon Balestra and his team developed a solution called Uberify.IT. It is a Chrome extension allowing users to connect with an Uber driver in minutes, without leaving the browser. A user just have to type “Uber pick me up” in his browser, and an Uber driver will come to his place. In addition Uberify transforms any address into actionable Uber buttons. With the button it’s possible to call Uber to that address.

Apart from his work for Beyounic, his own start-up headquartered at the Tecnopolo Ticino in Manno and funded by the Agire foundation, Nick Balestra is also a recognised tech-mentor: In this role, among others, he’ll attend the first Ticino’s hackathon, Hack the City, at the end of August.
