SET100 Award, the annual compilation of the most promising global innovators in the energy transition, is out. The list features 100 solutions developed by startups from 31 countries: Five Swiss startups made it to the list.

Start Up Energy Transition (SET) was founded in 2016 by the German Energy Agency (dena) with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWk). It offers young companies transforming the industry and shaping the future of energy a platform to showcase their forward-thinking solutions and connects them with companies, investors and other startups.

The 6th edition of the SET100 Award presents a selection of the 100 best innovations in five different categories, including Clean Energy Generation (25 startups), Demand-side Innovation (20 startups), Energy Distribution & Storage (21 startups), Smart Mobility & Transportation (14 startups), Quality Energy Access & SDG-7 (20 startups). The list includes startups from 31 countries.

The selected startups from Switzerland are:

Wegaw SA | combines satellite data analystics with machine learning to optimise clean energy production and trading. This involves monitoring environmental variables and is crucial to clean energy production and forecasting. The integrative technology combines AI and machine learning with data analysis across multiple earth observation platforms.

enersis suisse AG | develops and operates a digital platform for planning and simulating the energy system transformation. The platform brings together data from important stakeholders, creates transparency on the status quo of CO2 emissions and puts clients on the fastest track to zero emissions.

Exnaton AG | their software “EnergyCommunity” empowers electricity providers to set up energy communities in their distribution areas. Households can directly buy renewable electricity from their neighbors (from ‘peer to peer’) on the EnergyCommunity platform and track their environmental impact with the Energy Community app.

Zaphiro Technologies | the EPFL spinoff developed a real-time monitoring and automation system that enhances the efficiency and profitability of grid operations. Moreover, Zaphiro Technologies transforms the electrical distribution grids from passive to pro-active.

MPower Ventures AG | is a tech4impact venture tackling the challenges of energy access and financial inclusion in emerging markets. As local SMEs are key to the socio-economic development of these countries, MPower creates a B2B platform to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs.
