Showcased at the Startup Champions Seed Night 2022, Resilio is off to a strong start. The EPFL startup measuring the environmental impact of IT products, services, and infrastructures has generated close to CHF 200’000 in revenues since its creation in January.

Created in January 2022, Resilio is a Swiss startup measuring the environmental impact of IT products, services, and infrastructures. The young company helps organizations assess their environmental footprint to reduce it, along with IT costs. To achieve this aim, the team led by Amael Parreaux-Ey is developing a SaaS platform for organizations and consultants to securely collect data on their IT equipment and compute the corresponding impact.

As Gabriela Haenel, Co-founder & Project Manager at Resilio explains to Startupticker.ch, the name of the company was build up around the notion of resilience. This refers, in an environmental context, to the capacity of an ecosystem to respond to a perturbation or disturbance by resisting damage and recovering quickly.

Digital activities have a significant impact on the environment: they represent twice the impact of aviation worldwide. Moreover, the massive extraction of rare earth materials is disfiguring Earth (it is necessary to displace over 800 kg of earth to build a computer). Those numbers are predicted to grow exponentially if we don’t lower our consumption behaviors.

In this context, the team first accompanied the EPFL in the evaluation and reduction of their environmental footprint in 2020. Their work, commissioned by the management, led to the establishment of a general strategy of Responsible Digital for the School. The team realized that its know-how could be used by large companies to preserve the planet. To that aim, we decided to create Resilio. In the process, it decided to partner with the European reference in Green IT to combine its expertise and engineering skills.

Generating revenue already

At EPFL Alumni’s Startup Champions Seed Night in May 2022, Resilio reported a strong start in terms of revenue generation, an impressive achievement it was created on 4 months ago. The potential is huge as the European market of responsible digital and more particularly the French and Swiss markets are in their (infancy). These are benefiting from exponential growth. Thanks to Resilio’s partners and work, the startup has become a quality standard in the Swiss and French Ecosystem. That is why clients such as Group L'Occitane, EPFL and the City of Lausanne trust them.

Resilio’s customers are large organizations, public or private. On average they have at least 5’000 employees. From the banking industry to the cosmetic industry, their clients believe in a responsible digital transformation. Currently, Resilio operates in Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Spain.

None of its competitors has developed a SaaS platform so robust and complete as Resilio’s. The team does not only focus only on CO2 but in all the other environmental indicators. Gabriela Haenel explains “We use the latest databases. When factors are missing, we make our own research to get them and improve the quality of our service. We can deliver fast while ensuring the best standards in the sector. Our clients can therefore assess their impact using a user-friendly app without the need of any third party.”

Consolidating Growth

Resilio SaaS platform will be ready by June 2022; the first beta tests show promising results. By the end of the year, the team expects to connect its platform to its client’s CMDBs so that they can monitor their impact in real time. In the next 1-2 years, the team intends to move in the French market and expects to reach new markets such as Germany and Danemark, creating new opportunities.

Depending on the demand, Resilio might hire 2 to 3 collaborators by the end of this year. The company is also considering raising funds to fuel its growth. Headquartered at the EPFL, in an open space shared with other EPFL startups, the team is composed of around 18 people today.
