Qai Ventures launch

Two of the five startups in the Qai Ventures accelerator program for companies focusing on quantum technology applications hail from Switzerland: Miraex is developing a bi-directional quantum converter, while Moonlight is developing AI-based models that allow for faster and more affordable cancer diagnosis.

The QAI Ventures Accelerator is a 5-month program designed to support startups in advancing their solutions with support from a global mentor network, give them access to industry partners, and make them investment ready. The program also provides access to Quantum Hardware from leading industry players such as QuantumBasel, QuEra Computing Inc., Strangeworks, IBM, IonQ, and D-Wave, enabling them to test and validate their technologies in a real-world environment.

In addition to Quantum infrastructure, including office space for 12 months, the startups will each receive an investment of CHF 100’000 to cover their program expenses. Startups that meet the set milestones will have the opportunity to secure further funding from Qai Ventures fund, which provides up to CHF 2 million pre-seed to series A investment.

The curriculum for the next 5-months covers a broad spectrum of business development topics, such as developing business models, marketing and sales strategies, to enable the teams to bring their solutions to the next level. At the program’s end on 02 November, the startups will present their progress to the audience during the demo day.

The following startups will join the program in Uptown Basel:

Miraex – the Lausanne-based startup is developing a bi-directional quantum converter that unlocks distributed quantum computing and sensing of extremely low energy signals at the quantum level. Within this context, the company is working on two products; Miraex quantum converters, designed to convert quantum states between microwave and optical photons. These connect distant superconducting quantum computers over a quantum network to enable such distributed quantum computing and – on a larger scale – quantum internet. The Miraex quantum transducers are ultra-low noise direct microwave photon to optical photon transducers. They enable microwave single-photon detection and extract more precise information about the measured physical quantity. The company also revealed that it has onboarded qualified early adopters. With a team of 14 FTE, the company plans to launch the prototypes in 2026.

Moonlight AI – based in Courroux, Jura, Moonlight AI is revolutionizing cancer diagnosis and monitoring with AI-powered models for predicting therapeutically relevant genomic biomarkers using image scans of stained haematology or pathology slides in haematology or pathology. The AI-based models allow for faster, more affordable diagnosis, response assessment and relapse detection. With this solution, haematologists can continuously determine which treatment option is the best for individual cancer patients at any point in the patient journey. The company has a core team of four members and is currently fundraising for its pre-seed round.

The three further participants in the Qai Ventures program are Anaqor and Kipu Quantum from Germany and qdc from Poland.

Registration for the next batch will open on 25 August.
