EPFL spin-off NovoViz develops novel sensor chips enabling the next generation of sensors and cameras, offering much higher frame rates with less energy and lower system costs. The startup was awarded CHF 150,000 by Venture Kick after winning the third stage of the program.

Existing single-photon cameras are specialized pieces of equipment with high technological demands, making them inaccessible and costly for everyday users. Such cameras require expensive Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) sensors and are mostly used in complex and experimental setups with high overall costs, limiting their adoption in fields such as quantum imaging and machine vision.

To provide a cost-effective alternative in quantum imaging and machine vision research, NovoViz from Neuchatel is developing single-photon computational engines, leveraging two patents and a decade of research. The solution facilitates the development of cost-effective Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) cameras, offering much higher frame rates and minimal output bandwidth than existing cameras - all at single-photon resolution. With their solution, NovoViz aims to capture a significant share of the emerging SPAD camera market, which is expected to reach USD 500M.

Thanks to the CHF 150,000 financial boost from Venture Kick, NoboViz is equipped to accelerate its market entry and strengthen its patent portfolio. Behind the company is a team comprising CEO Dr. Andrada Muntean, CTO Dr. Andrei Ardelean, CFO MSc.-MBA Samuel Cheng, MSc. Ekin Kizilkan, MSc. Utku Karaca, and advisor Prof. Dr. Edoardo Charbon.

“Venture Kick isn’t just about financial support; it is a game-changer for early-stage startups like ours. It's all about propelling company growth, from boosting our product development to essential feedback at Kicker Camps and from the jury. Our journey with Venture Kick has been essential for NovoViz,” commented Andrada Muntean.
