With the EzPlan software, SeedImpulse makes it easier for doctors to carry out risk assessments before performing hip operations. In the next steps, the company will enhance its solution with the funds obtained from the FIT loan.

Before performing hip replacement surgery, doctors need to be able to conduct a thorough examination of the damaged joint so that they can choose the right implant. SeedImpulse, a Lausanne based startup founded by Julien von Siebenthal and Ernesto Durante developed EZplan, an online software program to make this task significantly easier. Designed to foster high-precision medical procedures, EZplan rapidly analyzes computed tomography (CT) images of a patient’s hip, thereby saving time and helping surgeons prepare for the replacement surgery more effectively.

“Our software screens out the extraneous information contained in CT scans and displays only the exact images and measurements that a surgeon needs to make decisions quickly and accurately,” says Durante, the company’s CTO. “Our added value lies in our ability to develop smart algorithms and understand the unique challenges related to operating on joints like the hip.”

SeedImpulse has now received a capital boost oh CHF 100’000 from the FIT Tech Seed loan to fund the development of new software that builds on EZplan but is focused more on the dynamic balance of a patient’s hip. “We want to incorporate a functional approach – that is, to show how an implant’s position would be affected by a patient’s posture and how a patient’s spine moves in relation to his pelvis,” said von Siebenthal.
