New executives to drive local and international growth

With the appointment of their new leaders, five startups offering solutions for the biotech, fintech, agriculture, and travel industries have acquired additional know-how to achieve their growth ambitions. The new executives are based in Switzerland, except for SEBA Bank’s APAC CEO, who is based in Asia, to oversee activities in the region.

Opterion Health, a Swiss-based life sciences company developing the first major innovation in peritoneal dialysis (PD) for two decades, has made new leadership changes. In addition to his current position as Chief Technology Officer, Peter Reinemer, has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer, replacing Björn Englund. With more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, peter brings vast expertise, experience and continuity to the CEO role. He has previously played a critical part in the progress of Opterion’s Osmotic Driver and will now further support the company as it enters a pivotal stage that includes preparations for the phase 1 study for our novel PD solution.

Guido Grentzmann, founder of Opterion, has announced his retirement as Chief Scientific Officer at the end of March 2023. Guido will continue to support Opterion as an Advisor. The company will occupy this vacancy in the coming months.

Co-leadership at Fairtig
Anne Melano, along with Gian-Mattia Schucan will lead Fairtiq as Co-CEOs. Anne joined FAIRTIQ in 2021 as Chief Business Officer and helped the company to cope with its rapid expansion. Since 2016, the startup has grown from six to 140 employees and brought its technology to six countries where it processes more than 1 million weekly trips. “Working hand in hand with Gian-Mattia on the company’s strategy has shown us the power of diversity and sharing. Our “CEO-as-a-team” model will support the further development of FAIRTIQ as an app and a solution partner for transport operators, simplifying access to sustainable mobility for people around the world”, states Anne in her LinkedIn post.

SEBA bank welcomes CEO APAC region
After opening its Hong Kong office and subsidiary, SEBA Bank has appointed Amy Yu as CEO of its APAC division to drive regional growth. As a deep domain expert in crypto and traditional banking in Asia, Yu has over fifteen years of experience in financial services spanning capital markets, trading ecosystems and liquidity provision. She previously played an instrumental role in regional and institutional growth strategies for market leaders in the crypto industry, a global derivatives exchange and prime broker. Prior to her move into the digital assets space, she supported the development of JP Morgan’s Prime Services in the APAC market.

Databaum appoints Chief Financial Officer
Andrew Moore is the new Chief Financial Officer of databaum, the startup providing intelligent disease management solutions to allow farmers to reduce their water and pesticide spending. The appointment of Andrew will enable the startup to exploit his experience to reach the next level. Andrew has over two decades of experience as a CEO and CFO in startup and turn-around companies and a proven track record in financing and selling several companies. According to the startup, Andrew’s hands-on approach and flexibility make him a great fit for the company’s current situation.

Metaco makes several leadership changes
Former global Head of Digital Asset Infrastructure at IBM, Peter DeMeo, joins Metaco, provider of digital asset custody and orchestration technology, as Chief Product Officer. He will oversee the product roadmap planning and lifecycle execution of Metaco’s suite of software and infrastructure solutions for institutions. He will also be responsible for setting up the company’s digital asset advisory practice, which provides strategic direction and consulting to the business and its clients. Having created IBM’s digital asset key management practice in 2017, DeMeo brings deep domain expertise to the company in digital asset key management. He holds patents for hardened, policy-based crypto transaction signing and quantum-safe offline cloud cold storage.

Former IBM lead architect Angel Nunez Mencias has taken on the role of Chief Customer Officer. Nunez Mencias, a prolific inventor and multiple patent owner, directed two decades of software enterprise design at the computing giant, including managing the development of its Hyper Protect Cloud services.

In addition to bolstering its executive team, Metaco has invested in key personnel across research and development, engineering and customer services to ensure the continued implementation of industry-leading custody solutions and fulfil customer and growth ambitions. As part of its commitment to innovation and servicing institutional needs, the company is creating Metaco Labs, a new research and development unit led by Angel Nunez Mencias.
