Neuria is the first start-up of 2024 to join the Vanguard Accelerator program. The Fribourg Digital Therapeutics startup has developed a platform to help people overcome their unhealthy behaviours, such as poor eating habits, alcohol abuse and smoking. By joining the Biopôle Campus, Neuria hopes to bring their product to a broader audience.

A spin-off from the University of Fribourg, Neuria has developed a platform that helps people change their unhealthy behaviors, such as poor eating habits, alcohol abuse and smoking. Neuria proposes a unique use of interactive games to change harmful behaviours without people being even aware of it, just by playing arcade video games embedding their patented neurocognitive mechanism of action. Their game The Diner has been shown to reduce both participants’ craving for and their actual consumption of targeted unhealthy foods by 20%. These impressive outcomes demonstrate the power of innovation to improve patient’s health and lifestyle choices in a fun and accessible way.

Frederik Plourde, Co-founder and CEO, said: ‘This program will help us position Neuria as a leader in the DTx industry in Switzerland and put together a strong investors syndicate for our recently opened Seed round. Empowering patient with technology to directly improve their health and benefit the healthcare system is a bold mission, and we are glad to be part of such a vibrant life sciences community to support us.’

Lucas Spierer, Co-founder and CSO of Neuria, added: ‘We are mostly looking for help to convert our innovation into a market-ready product and understand the medical regulations in Switzerland and in the EU.

Contacted by Startupticker.ch, Neuria's CEO explains that the startup has a fully functional MVP that shows impressive results in reducing sugar consumption by reshaping the patient's brain using our patented neurocognitive system. The company has tested the application on over 400 patients and is now preparing to commercialize the product. Neuria is currently raising CHF 1.2 million to obtain its first medical device license and bring its first product to market. The team is in discussion with several B2B partners for a paid pilot project.
