The Ecublens based startup L2F is the newest recipient of the CHF 500,000 FIT Tech Growth loan from the FIT Foundation. The startup developed a technology that can boost the effectiveness of machine learning.

Until now, data scientists working in the fields of predictive analytics have faced challenges in understanding some of the decisions made by machine learning programs, especially when those decisions include various factors.

L2F (Learn to forecast) has created a sophisticated method for modelling complex data and enhancing the performance of machine learning programs. Its technology, Giotto, is open-source software that combines artificial intelligence with topology and several advanced mathematics that studies the spatial properties of geometrical objects. The resulting process, called topological data analysis, can detect previously unidentified structures in large data sets and opens up a new field of research.

According to Aldo Podestà, CEO of L2F “L2F’s software solution will enable data scientist to delve deeper into artificial intelligence since the technology will enable them to identify new structures and new spatial relationships for characterizing data. This will  improve the precision of machine learning and generate results that are easier to interpret.”

Following the software launch on October 21, the startup has received the FIT Growth loan. The company and its team of 25 employees, will use the fundst to further enhance Giotto and develop proprietary commercial applications associated with the software.
