In 2020, Karger is offering the Vesalius Innovation Award for the first time. Early stage start-ups developing solutions for modern publishing with a focus on Health Sciences have a chance to win. The overall winner will be awarded a prize money of USD 15,000 and two runner-ups USD 5,000 each.

The Vesalius Innovation Award promotes talented young scientists and entrepreneurs who are involved in early-stage startups which are developing innovative solutions for the huge evolving needs of the Health Sciences ecosystem in the fields of science publishing and communication. Deadline for applications is 21 June.

Surgeon Andreas Vesalius not only revolutionized anatomy when he published “De humanis corporis fabrica” in 1543. His work also took typography and illustration to a new level, laying the foundation for an entirely new view on the human body for many generations. Fast forward to 2020, health sciences publishing is ready for a new revolution. The movement towards Open Research and the increased use of digital technologies in healthcare fundamentally change the way researchers, doctors and patients create and consume knowledge.

Combining tradition and disruption
