startup days session

The Startup Days, held on Tuesday and Wednesday in Bern, was a premier post-covid event that united more than 700 players from the Swiss startup ecosystem – 600 of them attended physically. With its rich program offering around 60 sessions with155 speakers, the unique event format also held the annual pitch battles; six startups took home prizes.

Organised for the first time under the management of the LINDEN Live Learning Labs AG, this year’s Startup Days took place in a new unique format. The venue hosted 600 visitors with a notably high number of female participants. In addition, around 80 guests attended virtually. Without a main stage, the event offered participants the opportunity to explore, learn and get insights on trending topics discussed through 57 sessions with over 155 speakers.

The discussions were split into three main themes: Learning, for attendees to enrich their knowledge on issues such as cyberattacks, valuation and exits strategy or founding a venture and pitching. Scaling sessions delivered input for the listeners to gain expertise on enlarging, internationalisation and growing the ecosystem. Finally, the Inspiration talks offered a glimpse on topics including 5G technology, circular economy, the impact of Covid19 on startups, and much more. Participants will get access to the discussions until the end of August.

Parallel to the sessions were 400 1:1 meetings, which enabled dialogue among participants and vast networking opportunities around the premises and the marketplace. On the website several videos and pictures were published to give an impression of the event spirit.

Rigorous Covid-19 measures

The event was also a success, thanks to the rigorous Covid-19 measures that were put in place. The three-stage procedure, which included sending information in advance, a self-test with QR code for recording the test result and complete checks of the negative test results at the entrance, and on-site testing – meant that no person had to be turned away. Almost 200 tests were carried out on-site – all were negative”, said Alexandra Leemann, Senior Project Management at Linden.

Startup battles conclude with six winners

Like every year, Startup Days held the pitching competition, allowing 50 startups in the five verticals, autonomous systems, fintech, sustainable tech, health tech and services, to present their solutions to the audience. Via public voting, the audience selected the best pitch for each vertical during the final pitch battles. The following startups won the prizes.

Autonomous systems
Isochronic AG developed an industrial robot based on a novel, patented kinematic technology that allows for transporting parts in parallel using only a single robot. This next generation of industrial robots is designed for accelerated Pick & Place applications with reduced floor space and architecture that offers a much larger working envelope.

Healthtech
anavo developed a nanoparticle paste that reduces wound healing complications and provides swift healing. The product is based on cutting-edge nanotechnology that boosts the body’s self-healing capacity and keeps bacterial infections in check.

Sustainable-tech
Both Impossible Materials and Swistor won the pitched battle. Impossible Materials develops plant-based cellulose pigment solutions for a wide range of industries. Swistor, on the other hand, is developing eco-friendly batteries that exhibit fast charging (10 to 100x faster than traditional battery), extended lifetime and a wide range of operating temperatures without security issues.

Fintech
Kaspar& – Starting with investing, the startup offers anyone access to professional financial services at a flat-fee pricing model.

Services
IDUN Technologies – develops soft and dry conductive electrodes with a patented surface structure for bio-potential monitoring (ECG, EEG, EMG) without electrolyte gel or glue.
