Swiss Medtech Award presents the shortlist

The Swiss Medtech Award recognises the most outstanding medical technologies in Switzerland. The jury has selected seven companies that will further compete for one of three spots of the final round and to get the chance to present their ideas to the audience at the Swiss Medtech Day on 21 September 2020 in Bern. The winner will take home a cash prize of CHF 50,000.00.

The companies on the shortlist are:

Aleva Neurotherapeutics – developed DirectSTIM, the first directional Deep Brain Stimulation implantable system with MEMS technology. The device has already obtained the CE marked for sale in Europe as a treatment for Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor.

Biospectal – with OptiBP that start-up facilitates accurate remote blood pressure monitoring and management, via the fingertip on the smartphone camera.

GaDia – is developing NosoCheck, an innovative, patented rapid in vitro diagnostic (IVD) test to detect nosocomial diseases. With their solution, the company aims to introduce a new rapid Point-Of-Care (POC) predictive diagnostic test to discriminate healthcare-acquired fungal infections from other causes of infections.

Rheon Medical – specialising on glaucoma, the start-up developed an eyeWatch glaucoma drainage system as an optimal surgical solution. In March this year, Rheon Medical together with its partner from Spain implanted the first eyeWatch in patients.

Other selected companies are:

Liver4Life, a Wyss Zurich project, is developing a perfusion system that makes it possible to grow a healthy piece of liver tissue outside a patient’s body until it is large enough to replace the diseased part of their own liver.

Two SMEs will also battle against the selected start-ups. Smith & Nephew Schweiz which is developing PICO, a Single-use negative pressure wound therapy system to reduce infection risk after surgery and VirtaMed, the developer of LaparoS/LapTrainer, a procedure simulator for medical training of minimally invasive procedures.
