The WA de Vigier Foundation Startup Awards is the most prestigious prize-giving event for young entrepreneurs in Switzerland. Start-ups that want to be included in next year’s competition can apply to the WA de Vigier Foundation now. The application period runs to the end of September.
The main criteria for an award-worthy project are innovative character, societal importance, technical and financial feasibility, and market potential. The selection process is carried out according to strict rules, and a winner, or team of winners, receives a prize of CHF100,000. In addition, the foundation takes a stake with an additional CHF10,000 in the company (max 10%). It also provides practical assistance in the development of market-ready services or products, and helps in building a network of contacts to ensure long-term success.
In general, five winners are awarded each year. Of the 88 winners or groups of winners to date, about two-thirds still have a market presence as of 2013. The foundation works with, among others, the Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI (CTI Start-up) and supports it in the promotion of young entrepreneurs.
