HouseTrip appoints former Skype chief as chairman

According to a report on the news portal Travolution former Skype chief executive and eBay head of Europe Michael van Swaaij has been named as chairman of European holiday rental site HouseTrip.com.

According to a report on Travolution Michael van Swaaij has been named as chairman of HouseTrip.com. Michael van Swaaij has been called an “industry legend”. In the nineties he was Managing Director of Compuserve and then built up eBay Europe. In 2005 he became eBay’s international Chief Strategy Officer. He served as interim CEO of Skype from October 2007 to March 2008 and remained chairman of Skype until 2009.  

In addition to the appointment of the new chairman ex-Yahoo! executive George Hadjigeorgiou becomes chief operating officer of Housetrip, moving up from the role of chief business officer.

HouseTrip.com was launched in January 2010 by Arnaud Bertrand and Junjun Chen and has offices in Switzerland (Lausanne), Portugal (Lisbon) and the UK (London). HouseTrip is one of Europe’s largest holiday rental booking websites. HouseTrip is the already has more than 220,000 listings in over 15,000 destinations worldwide, with new accommodation being added every day.
