Global accolades for Swiss innovations

Winning international awards gives startups a confirmation that their innovation is outstanding on a global scale. Recently, five Swiss startups have received awards and honors from different competitions held across the world.  

The following startups have been recognised in the United States and Europe.

PexaparkEnergy Risk Awards 2020, Texas
Fintech startup, Pexapark has won the Energy Risk Awards which recognise excellence across global commodities markets. Zurich-based Pexapark received the Innovation of the Year Award for its PexaQuote pricing and evaluation engine that brings increased transparency and liquidity to renewables power purchase agreements (PPA) market. Through the platform, the startup provides a suite of software tools to enable better renewable energy sales in markets where subsidies and feed-in tariffs are phasing out. The platform has attracted users from both the sell- and buy-side, including large off-takers such as Engie, Vattenfall, RWE and Axpo and plans to add US power markets to the pricing engine.

Sophia GeneticsMedTech Breakthrough Awards, Los Angeles
Lausanne-based Sophia Genetics is a pioneer in Data-Driven Medicine. The startup has been named Best Overall Genomics Company as part of the 2020 MedTech Breakthrough Awards whose aim is to identify and elevate the “breakthrough” solutions and companies that are changing the landscape of the industry. The startup’s AI SOPHiA, is a platform based on AI models that enables health professionals to analyse and bank patient DNA sequences generated by Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).

Sygnum: The Innovators 2020, New York
The editorial board of the Global Finance Publication has selected Zurich based Sygnum as part of the winners of its Innovators 2020, an award that recognizes companies developing new solutions for the financial sector. Sygnum developed a solution that systematically embeds digital assets into regulated banking. Its platform allows fast and reliable execution for fiat currencies and major digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and digital CHF tokens. 

Open Mineral, Global Metals Awards, London
S&P Global Platts, an independent provider of information and benchmark prices for the commodities and energy markets has announced the finalists of its Global Metals AwardsOpen Mineral secured a spot in the category of Rising Star Company. The Zug based startup developed the first B2B platform empowering buyers and sellers of base metal commodities to use technology to trade more efficiently.
