GetYourGuide Acquires Peer-to-Peer Activity Portal IGottaGuide
GetYourGuide has acquired peer-to-peer platform IGottaGuide for an undisclosed sum as part of its effort to make a deep dive into the local activities market. By adding IGottaGuide’s New York City-focused offerings to its portfolio, GetYourGuide strengthens its position in one of its key North American markets.
This new acquisition is GetYourGuide’s second procurement in the peer platform space, following its April merger with Berlin-based activity platform, Gidsy. The move to incorporate local peer-to-peer activity platforms underscores GetYourGuide’s ambition to incorporate both top attractions and niche activities into its portfolio.
GetYourGuide’s CEO, Johannes Reck, sees this acquisition as a natural manifestation of a trend in the tours and activities sector.
“What we’ve seen is that the smaller players in the peer-to-peer-space are merging with larger aggregators like GetYourGuide,” commented Reck. “At GetYourGuide we are proud to have built the world’s largest portal for local activities, with more than 22,000 products to date, and we continue to be very excited to offer our customers the largest breadth of things to do both in New York City and worldwide.”
IGottaGuide’s founders, Keith Petri and Michael Griffiths, will remain consultants to GetYourGuide for the North American Market. They see the acquisition as a way to continue their vision of connecting travelers with local experts.
“After experiencing Florence like a local I was motivated to help travelers avoid tourist traps,” explained Petri. “I wanted to make dog-eared, dull guidebooks a thing of the past by providing people with a friend in every city. We’re enthusiastic to see our efforts to disrupt an established industry continue by having our assets integrated with GetYourGuide’s.”
IGottaGuide services have been discontinued, and going forward, traffic will be redirected to GetYourGuide.com, where the peer service’s return customers will be able to book more than 22,000 activities in thousands of global destinations.
