The Swiss-South Africa Blockchain Innovation Challenge supports startups that apply Blockchain technology to solving real-world problems in business, society and government. Four startups from Switzerland have been selected to join the delegation to Cape Town to meet industry players and expand their network through events and meetings.

Initiated by the Swiss Leading House – University of Basel and the Embassy of Switzerland to South Africa, in collaboration with esteemed partners Swissnex, SEIF, Algorand, CV VC, Wintech, and the University of Cape Town: Fintech Hub, the Swiss-South Africa Blockchain Innovation Challenge provides South African and Swiss blockchain startups with the opportunity to connect and leverage each other’s ecosystems and resources.

The Swiss delegation, which includes four startups will be joined by five South African startups. Following a series of masterclasses, hosted by SEI in Switzerland and an investment readiness program by the SA Innovation Summit, the selected startups will further receive tailored support as they embark on a week-long trip to Cape Town from 25 September. They will explore the growing Swiss-South African Tech for Impact Cluster, engage with University and Industry partners to gain a better understanding of the market and interact with the local innovation ecosystem. One of the trip’s highlights is the participation in the South African Innovation Summit which takes place from 27-28 September 2023 in Cape Town.

These are the four startups representing Switzerland:

Farmer Connect – the Geneva-based startup strives to increase transparency, efficiency, and traceability in the supply chain field by connecting consumers with producers in the coffee market.

OriginAll S.A. – provides a technology platform that allows people, brands and governments to easily access pertinent product information and differentiate legitimate from fake or illicitly traded products.

AIDONIC – uses blockchain to de-risk direct, scaled-up partnerships between global funders and local non-profits.

PhotoChromic – Provides verifiable identity for safe, secure online interactions. The PhotoChromic identity protocol enables financial services providers to leverage their existing identity verification processes, reduce cyber risk, minimize data sharing, and improve the customer journey.

The South African cohort comprises the following startups: Verifi, eSusFarm®, Escropay, RightfulShare and Funti3r
