Food and Beverages startups set for European expansion

From natural drink mixes for bar-grade drinks and insect snack delicacies to planted-based meat alternatives – the European market is ready for the food revolution. Thanks to their new customer deals, three foodtech startups are on their way to becoming the leading providers of innovative and sustainable food products.

Mikks offers all-natural and preservatives-free drink mixers to enable hospitality businesses (bars and clubs) and private bartenders to make high-quality lemonades, spritzes, and cocktails without complexities – all that needs to be added is ice and a required (non)alcoholic drink. Since its launch, the startup has continued to attract B2B customers in various segments of the gastronomy industry. The company recently welcomed Iberostar Hotels, which will provide Mikks-based drinks across all its hotels in Spain. According to the startup, this partnership solidifies its position as a leading provider of premium non-alcoholic cocktail mixers in the hospitality sector. Scenic - Luxury Cruises & Tours has also added Mikks drinks to its assortment enabling the cruise company to enhance its customers’ experience as they sail throughout Europe.

Retailer is bringing Essento in 190 stores
Insects are a rich source of protein for the growing global population. Swiss startup Essento pioneered the development of insect-based food products for retail and food service providers and customers via its online shop. Since the legislative approval in Switzerland for edible insects, the startup’s insect treats have been available in restaurants and grocery stores. Coop, Switzerland’s leading retail chain, is bringing Essento into 190 stores across Switzerland – to this end, the products were available in 100 Coop stores. Besides distribution in physical stores and restaurants, Essento ships across Europe.  

New Planted products in France
As part of their collaboration, Planted.Foods and Fleury Michon, the second best-selling French brand, are developing a line of three plant-based products designed to delight flexitarians and anyone who wants to eat healthy and delicious without sacrificing the traditional taste and versatility of meat. The three products, Emincés Végétaux, are available in three delicious variations: Rôtis, aux Herbes and Epices douces, and they can be used in a variety of dishes, from salads and hot dishes to quiches and pizzas. In addition, all three products have a Nutriscore A rating, the highest possible rating for nutritional quality in France. After a successful premiere at Carrefour and Intermarché, all three products are now available nationwide in France, including Carrefour, Intermarché, Casino, Monoprix and Auchan. The launch is accompanied by strong marketing activities, such as in-store activations and tastings.
