The Swiss-Indian Academia-Industry Training Camp organised by Venturelab in partnership with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and swissnex India, is a business development program designed to support scientists from Switzerland and India to transform their advanced research into market-ready products and services. A cohort of 20 startups, ten from each country, travelled to India and Switzerland for one week to exchange and learn more about each other's ecosystems in addition to training.
As part of the program, the event culminated with a pitching competition in which the teams contested for CHF 45,000 of development grants from the respective governments. The winners of the contest are Cureous Labs and Emertech Innovations from India alongside REA and Adiposs from Switzerland.
REA is a Lausanne based startup founded as a spinoff of EPFL’s Laboratory of Prof. Carlotta Guiducci, and CHUV’s Obstetrics Research Unit of Prof. David Baud. The startup is the first noninvasive test to rule out preterm labour. Its technology can be used to identify and quantify biomarkers present in the vaginal fluid to determine the risk of preterm birth. Such a device is primarily composed of three components: a microfluidic system, a biosensing unit, and a readout system.
Adiposs is a medtech spinoff startup of the University of Geneva developing medical imaging products and technologies for early detection of cachexia, a devastating body wasting syndrome, characterised by involuntary body weight loss. The company' product ImageBAT is a new CT contrast agent which enables early detection of cachexia before patients lose body weight.
