XRnanotech is planning to launch its state-of-the-art x-ray optics technology in European and global markets. To fund this mission, the company has received CHF 150’000 from Venture Kick to scale up production and enhance its solution.

XRnanotech is a high-tech spin-off of the Paul Scherrer Institute offering innovative nanostructured X-ray optics with outstanding precision. Existing X-ray microscopes lack X-ray optics with high resolution, which hinders scientists from clearly observing the smallest structures in the nano-world. XRnanotech provides a new perspective with its world-record resolution, at 7 nm, using soft X-ray scanning microscopy.

For the first time,  researchers will be able to peek deeper into matter and materials using X-ray technologies to obtain sharp images from the smallest-ever structures, such as transistors in microchips or advanced magnetic materials. The patented technologies will advance drug research and scientific experiments, materials testing, and medical imaging. Moreover, the solutions provide twice the photon efficiency compared to state-of-the-art products and allow applications at high-intensity X-ray lasers without degradation of the optics.

XRnanotech was established in 2020 by Florian Döring whose goal is to bring to the market the newest groundbreaking innovations in X-ray optics. The startup will henceforth enter the diffractive X-ray optics market worth CHF1.6 billion, and dominated by large-scale research facilities and academic institutes.

With Venture Kick’s support and funding, the startup will boost its market entry and expand from the European to the global market. This will require scale-up of the production and continuous product development. “Venture Kick is a true asset for young startups, like XRnanotech. It helped us to drive our business development, enabled contacts to our first investors, and allowed us to sell our first products right after the foundation of our company,” said Florian Döring, CEO and founder of XRnanotech.
