The Swiss Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI) start-up label certification board has awarded three technology startups with the CTI startup label. The startups including Cutiss, Dolfinos and OrbiWise offer products ranging from bioengineered skin to a violin rest and to IoT solutions respectively.

The CTI supports innovative business ideas and runs a professional coaching programme for young entrepreneurs. After three coaching stages, the most promising start-ups receive the CTI Start-up label. Three technology startups have been awarded this week. These include:

Cutiss AG, Medtech, Zürich
Cutiss AG, a spin-off of the University of Zurich developing personalised bioengineered skin graft technologies for the treatment of a large spectrum of skin defects mainly burns. The startup’s first in line product denovoSkin has been tested in a Phase I clinical trial on pediatric patients at the University Children’s Hospital in Zurich. Cutiss has received Swissmedic approval for Phase II trials this week. EU Phase II studies are funded by Wyss Zurich. denovoSkin has received Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of burns by Swissmedic, EMA and FDA. In addition, denovoSkin promises to improve life quality of elective (reconstructive) patients as well and it can further be developed in terms of complexity by adding pigmentation.

Dolfinos AG, interdisciplinary, Baden
Dolfinos's complete solution replaces today's chin and shoulder rests for violins and violas with one single device. The patented technology and design stimulates a healthier posture, enable more effortless playing and let the violin vibrate freely. The product is to will protect violinists or viola players against health problems whilst making it much easier to play the instrument. Dolfinos embodies sustainability as a major value and has the properties to guarantee the lifelong preservation of the instruments. Studies by the ETH Physiology Lab, EMPA and Zurich University of the Arts successfully validated the safety, effectiveness and usability of the All-in-One Violin Rest.

OrbiWise SA, Plan-les-Ouates
Orbiwise, founded by experienced industry insiders, is a pioneer in the Internet of Things field. Today, long-range wide area networks are established almost everywhere; for example, to track shipments or manage free parking spaces. Orbiwise has come along at the perfect time and is now benefiting from the build-up work. The revenue is increasing strongly. The company produces virtual network servers to host applications that communicate with sensors and actuators via the base station of the IoT network. There is enormous potential. Since the barriers to entry for establishment of a network are lower than in the area of mobile telephony, the market for IoT networks might even become bigger than the current market for mobile phone networks.

CTI Start-up enables creative entrepreneurs to realize their innovative business ideas quickly and professionally. Through a three-phase, firmly guided process lasting 6 to 24 months, a dedicated expert will help the venture’s project evolve sufficiently to apply for the CTI Start-up Label. The Start-up Label is a seal of quality, a certificate of achievement, and a sign of credibility and readiness for sustainable growth. It is awarded by the CTI Certification Board that is composed of seasoned entrepreneurs and experts.
