The jury of FIT chose to support the Lumendo start-up with a CHF 100’000 FIT Tech Seed loan. The medtech startup has developed the next generation of injectable surgical fillers, an industry first.

Inserting implants several centimeters long into the human body using a 300-600 micrometer catheter, then accurately and quickly solidifying them with lighting: this is the unique novel solution developed by Lumendo SA, an EPFL and EPFZ  spin-off with offices at MassChallenge Switzerland in Renens.

With applications for the orthopedics, neurovascular and dental markets, the young company founded by Andreas Schmocker and Mark Bispinghoff, two former EPFL and ETHZ PhD students aims to fundamentally change the way in which surgeons place implants. More than 700,000 dental filling operations in Switzerland (23 million in the US) per year take 30 minutes with rubber to fill the canals. Lumendo’s solution reduces the intervention time to 3 minutes.

The funds awarded by FIT will allow Lumendo to continue the commercial roll-out of its first product. “FIT support is valuable. It will allow us to build partnerships for the introduction of our first product into the market and continue the development of our technology pipeline. ” said Dr. Andreas Schmocker after the FIT jury session.
