Aequaland

Aequaland is a serious game app with interactive stories based on equality and sustainability values. The beta version was launched last week. The aim is to help build a world where children wake up inspired, feel safe to be authentic, and become the change-makers of tomorrow.

Parents are becoming increasingly conscious that children are immersed in a social environment that produces and perpetuates rigid roles. The stereotypes we see in entertainment, retail, media, and education impact children’s development. Parents recognize the need to empower their children to reach their full potential. Here Aequaland comes in with its interactive, storytelling app.

The stories are for children aged 3-6-9. The goal is to enable children to discover their passions, foster their differences and learn that it’s possible to live their dream. Academics, content creators, and artists work closely together to create innovative and didactic content focused on promoting critical thinking and creative skills.

The characters have strong values and are very diverse and complementary with the aim to value and practice respect for others. The characters will be used in multiple stories, so children get to know them, identifying and connecting with them.

Children make decisions on behalf of the main character, see the consequences of their choices unfold on screen and choose from multiple challenges and depending on what they decide; the end of the story will be different. At the end of each story game, educational activities for children are offered to play off the app, and reflect on the meaning behind each story. Activities include writing, drawing, cooking and a costume quest.

Started four months ago, Aequaland got more than 600 signs-up on its website and more than 1600 followers on Instagram. Last week the young company has launched its storytelling game app for iPhones and iPads as well as for Android devices. The app can be downloaded and played for free. In-app purchases provide more stories or an AR experience.

The stories in the first version of the app focus on human values and diversity – one of the so-called planets in the app. In the future, the team aim to create an infinite number of planets, from the orange planet where creativity and innovation bloom, to the green planet where sustainability is a live reality. In addition more stories will be included and the team also plans to publish cartoons.
