symbolic picture artificial intelligence

Four startups in the field of ICT have been awarded the Innosuisse Certificate by the Swiss Innovation Agency, acknowledging their readiness for sustainable growth. By harnessing artificial intelligence, the startups have developed and launched solutions to predict movies’ success, detect errors or emergencies and project virtual images with genuine depth.

The Innosuisse Certificate is been awarded following a rigorous evaluation process that assesses a company’s innovation capabilities, financial readiness to receive external funding if needed, and management structure after completing the Innosuisse Core Coaching program. The following awarded companies have made impressive progress and proven themselves ready for sustainable growth.

Largo Films – success forecasts for the movie industry
Largo.ai’s AI technology streamlines the film production process and improves decision-making. The company offers a product suite for producers including screenplay analysis, character analysis and casting proposition as well as financial forecasts. Their product suite for distributors provides insights on greenlighting, sales estimates, distribution strategy and also financial forecasts. The goal is to help producers, distributors, and studios make smarter, more informed decisions. Largo is now firmly established in the film industry. At this year’s prestigious Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes for example 14 customers of Largo took the stage for a 3-minute pitch, all powered by cutting-edge AI forecasts. The event sold out within 24 hours. Receiving the Innosuisse certification validates their dedication to innovation and vision for a more efficient and effective film production industry.

Pallon – AI for sewage monitoring
Sewers transport wastewater and stormwater from households to treatment plants and therefore play an integral role in everyone’s daily life. Maintaining them regularly is essential to ensure better health, prevent catastrophes and protect the environment. The currently estimated 3.9 million kilometers of sewers in Europe and the United States are in moderate or poor condition, despite having inspectors collect visual data. ETH Zurich spinoff, Pallon wants to make maintenance easier with an artificial intelligence tool that automatically detects defects in sewer inspection footage and informs engineers when and how to repair them. The solution helps to reduce human errors while providing objective results. Since its market launch in 2020, Pallon has scaled its product to over 100 customers. Among them are construction companies such as STRABAG, and engineering firms, including ISAS GmbH, Germany’s largest engineering firm for sewer rehabilitation. Public sewer network operators like the city of Düsseldorf and private ones like Gelsenwasser AG also use the technology. The acquisition of a Germany-based company last year further propelled Pallon’s growth.

CREAL – enhanced AR with standard eyeware
CREAL develops a unique light-field AR display, blending digital images into the real world without visual conflict. In May 2023, after over two years of development, CREAL unveiled the first-ever AR display combining light fields with standard lenses. The unique display creates digital imagery that genuinely represents how light behaves in the real world, providing a true-to-life depth perception for the human eye. With natural focus and continuous depth resolution, users can enjoy comfortable, extended interaction with virtual objects in their personal space.

The solution fills a major gap in the AR glasses space, where offering visual comfort and lens aesthetics requires the right projection system and lens combination.  While almost all AR glasses providers are lumbered with trade-offs between focal depth, image resolution and lens aesthetic, CREAL’s newest display finally enables an AR visual experience that “has it all”: True-to-life depth perception for a healthy and natural visual experience, entirely transparent lens for natural eye contact and conventional aesthetic look as well as compatibility with customizable prescription lenses for a tailor-made visual experience.

Sedimentum - contactless and intelligent emergency detection service
Sedimentum's SAFE-living solution combines intelligent, contactless emergency detectors with automatic emergency alarms. In addition to falling, the SAFE-living emergency detectors also detect other potentially critical emergencies and automatically request help, discreetly without a camera or sound recordings. These emergencies include, for example, unusually long bathroom stays or not leaving the bedroom in the morning, but also potential burglaries. The emergency detectors measure movement patterns - in the event of a potential emergency, they send an alarm to Sedimentum's 24/7 emergency call centre. In the SAFE-living app, it is also possible to actively call for help. In addition to detecting potentially hazardous situations at home, SAFE-living also offers features for relatives, who can easily check how their loved ones are doing at home in the app at any time. The SAFE-living system is recommended by a number of important organisations such as Pro Senectute.
