The MIRAHI (Making Innovation a Reality – African Health Initiative) supports the validation and scale-up of novel, equitable and sustainable solutions to systemic health challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The next edition is open for applications.

MIRAHI is run by the University of Basel Innovation Office, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), and the broader Swiss innovation ecosystem on behalf of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI) as part of the Leading House Africa program. The program is run with partners from a number of African countries together with the University of Basel Innovation Office, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), and the broader Swiss innovation ecosystem. Example partners are the Healthtech Hub Africa and Ifakara Health Institute Innovation Hub.

Partners have been selected based on their ability to facilitate insight into healthcare challenges and engage with startups. Shortlisted startups will thus be allocated to a respective partner to support them in validating their solution and gain an understanding of real healthcare challenges in the appropriate context.

Eligible to apply are science-based start-ups and innovators from Switzerland looking to gain access to healthcare challenges in Sub-Saharan African countries to facilitate the validation of solutions that can have an impact in the region.

The startups will receive approx. CHF 2’000 for their travel and HF 5,000 to fund their pilot projects.
