Sorba Absorber Corn

The managing company of the Swiss Technology Fund announces that the Federal Office for the Environment, FOEN granted a loan guarantee to Sorba Absorber. The start-up produces “corn fibers”.

Sorba Absorber produces and markets peat substitutes obtained from corn straw. The resulting products are so-called TEFA corn fibers. The high levels of crystalline cellulose make TEFA corn fibers very robust and resistant to biological degradation in comparison to other peat substitutes. In addition it has a low degree of salinity and a very fine structure.

„The loan guarantee supports our intention to expand production. This is the logical next step for us to counteract the negative consequences of peat consumption on global climate”, explains Stefan Grass, owner and CEO of Sorba Absorber GmbH happily.

Simone Riedel Riley, General Manager of the Technology Fund emphasizes the great value of the business model: „The collaboration with local agricultural partners that operate as exclusive suppliers and processors of raw material is a financially attractive solution for all involved parties. The business model guarantees an optimized utilization of capacities.”

Innovative SMEs, which are developing and marketing climate friendly technologies, can apply for a loan guarantee of up to CHF 3 million from the Technology Fund. The application form is available online at www.technologyfund.ch.
