OrbiWise SA, a leading provider of infrastructure solutions for Internet of Things, has been selected by Tata Communications to supply the Core Network management solution for its nationwide Indian Low Power Wide Area Network based on LoRa technology.

Tata Communications’ network based on LoRa technology, in its first phase, will cover 400 million people across Tier 1, 2, 3 and 4 cities – including Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, before eventually covering all of India. Tata Communications’ initiative will mark the largest deployment of LoRa to date. In the first phase, the network will utilize LoRa’s outstanding long range and low power radio characteristics to power Smart City IoT applications such as smart metering, lighting, parking and various sensors – the application scenarios are endless. OrbiWise’s cloud-based UbiQ LoRa Core Network software suite provides the control and maintenance function over all elements of a LoRa Network – from devices to gateways to servers to back-end customer interfaces.

“OrbiWise is proud to serve Tata Communications for the largest worldwide LoRa deployment to date. UbiQ, our carrier grade solution implementing the LoRaWAN standard is perfectly suited to support such nation-wide networks while being flexible enough to adapt to local radio requirements,” says Domenico Arpaia, CEO of OrbiWise.

OrbiWise and the partner LoRa Alliance members working on Tata Communications’ network provided a demonstration to Tata Communications’ senior executives at the Founder’s day on March 2nd 2016 in Jamshedpur, India (held every year in honour of the Tata group founder, Jamsetji Tata).

Tri Pham, Chief Strategy Officer, Tata Communications, says “We selected OrbiWise’s LoRa Core Network software solution for our upcoming IoT network – the first of its kind in India – after a thorough analysis of available technologies. We are confident that OrbiWise’s innovative solution will help us to successfully launch our new IoT network, and we look forward to our continued cooperation with OrbiWise and with the LoRa Alliance.”
