xFarm technology for Riso Gallo

Finland is pioneering the ePassport through its Digital Travel Credential initiative, supported by Swiss biometrics specialist Tech5. Meanwhile, Meteomatics, xFarm and DGTAL have launched pilot projects leveraging artificial intelligence to support industry leaders in the energy, agriculture and insurance sectors with data and insights.

Tech5, a specialist in biometrics and digital identity management has joined forces with with Auctorizium, a Singapore-based tech company focused on ePassport PKI and ePassport validation to provide a turnkey solution for Finland’s DTC (Digital Travel Credential) initiative. This is one of the world’s first digital travel credential pilot projects. DTC represents a digital version of the passport that allows passengers on Finnair flights travelling to destinations outside the Schengen Area to pass through border control faster and easier than before without compromising security. While Auctorizium is responsible for the development, deployment, and support of all technology components of the pilot system, Tech5 will deliver its T5-OmniMatch SDK technology that will be integrated with Auctorizium’s solution for the facial biometric matching at the Inspection System.

Meteomatics initiates pilot project with Nvidia
In a joint initiative with NVIDIA, Meteomatics will deliver NVIDIA-powered, AI-based weather forecasts to energy companies within minutes, rather than hours. The weather intelligence company enables the world’s leading companies to accurately forecast the weather’s impact on business. Around 700 companies around the world, including CVS Health, Tesla, Swiss Re, Airbus and Toyota rely on its weather models, which are fueled by data collected by its Meteodrones–weather drones capable of flying up to 6 km (20,000 feet)–and 110 other data sources, including satellites, radars and weather stations. By leveraging NVIDIA’s cloud APIs, Meteomatics will now be able to deliver AI-based weather forecasts in minutes. The pilot project with NVIDIA involves three energy companies, ENGIE, Louis Dreyfus Company and TotalEnergies that will test technology’s ability to consistently deliver weather forecasting within minutes, rather than hours. Following the initial pilots, Meteomatics will open its AI-powered weather data delivery service to the wider business community, with an immediate focus on renewable energy forecasting, the related insurance business and trading.

xFarm starts multi-year project with Riso Gallo
Following the successful collaboration between Swiss-Italian startup xFarm, the provider of digital solutions for the agri-food supply chains and Riso Gallo, one of the largest rice mills in Europe and one of the oldest in Italy, the two companies have launched multi-year project to digitalise Riso Gallo’s entire supply chain. This currently consists of more than 180 farms participating in the “Rice that sustains” project, in order to guarantee full traceability of the activities carried out in the field, production efficiency and thus greater environmental and economic sustainability of the supplying farms. In 2023, six pilot farms were involved in testing the technologies of xFarm, totalling more than 400 hectares digitally mapped. The goal for 2024 is to increase the number of users by developing a dedicated platform to manage the entire rice supply chain.

DGTAL launches pilot with Germany’s SCOR
As Europe’s first Platform-as-Service startup that decrypts and processes unstructured insurance data, DGTAL offers cloud-based AI applications enabling unprecedented insights, solid predictions, better decisions, and automated processes. The startup has partnered up with SCOR Reinsurance Germany to test its AI-supported platform DRILLER in the assessment of occupational disability claims. An initial pilot project will be launched in April 2024. DRILLER is an AI-powered portfolio tool that can be used to develop a contextual understanding of a wide range of cases and documents. This application enables users to sift through vast amounts of data to identify patterns, trends and correlations that support the decision of the claim’s examiner. It is the flagship of DGTAL and unique in the insurance industry.
