The FUSION project supports SME and start-ups, wanting to investigate and experimentally validate highly innovative ideas for the internet. New applications can be tested on freely available testbeds.

There is an increasing demand from both academic and industrial communities to bridge the gap between visionary research and large-scale experimentation, through experimentally-driven advanced research consisting of ‘iterative’ cycles of research, design and experimentation of new networking and service architectures and paradigms addressing all levels, including horizontal research on issues such as system complexity and security.

The Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE) is an initiative promoted by the European Commission which addresses the emerging expectations which are being put upon the Internet, by providing a research environment for investigating and experimentally validating highly innovative and revolutionary ideas.

Within the FIRE context, the FUSION project supports SMEs and Start-ups that have needs in testing new applications together with these FIRE testbeds. Those testbeds are freely available for running tests and experiments spanning a large technology spectrum.

FUSION provides an exchange portal whereby SMEs and Startups can find available testbeds and present their testing requirements. The portal lines up these requirements with the testing capabilities available on the testbeds. Moreover, through the FUSION newsletter channel companies can get informed about EC funding opportunities, webinars and relevant events around them.

As a project of the FP7 programme of the EU FUSION is not affected by the problems caused by the Swiss referendum on mass immigration.
