Basel Life Science Week: Promising Events for Start-ups

A densely packed agenda awaits the participants of the Basel Life Science Week. Two events are especially interesting for start-ups. The “Jumpstarting Innovation Forum”, a two day event with the topic “Early stage investing, start-up-incubation and how to enable the future generation of biotech Innovators” and a top class matchmaking and the “Microfluidics Matchmaking & Networking Event”.

Basel Life Science Week is an international event that brings together researchers, investors, & policy makers from industry, academia, and not-for-profit institutions. Each year, representatives from more than 45 countries participate in advancing our current understanding and applying knowledge to progress the life sciences fields.

The 2016 programme will see a convergence of many great offering – which include: The DayOne programme on Precision Medicine from BaselArea.Swiss, the ILMAC Exhibition on Laboratory Equipment, and the Medical Devices and Diagnostics conference “Medtech&Pharma” - will all take place the same week.

Basel Life Science week is an open platform, with the specific goal to catalyse the innovation process amongst creative and passionate individuals. We picked two events that will take place during the week and are ideal opportunities for start-ups to learn and to meet professionals from industry and academia who are looking for partners in Switzerland.


«Basel Microfluidics Matchmaking & Networking Event»

BaselArea.swiss/i-net innovation networks, MinacNed and EUresearch, join forces to organize the «Basel Microfluidics Matchmaking & Networking Event» dated September 23rd, 2016. This one-day matchmaking event follows the «Basel Microfluidics Workshop» the previous day at the Basel Life Sciences Week 2016. Delegates from the Netherlands and the tri-border region of Basel (Switzerland, Germany and France) – including some prominent industry leaders – will join the workshop and provide critical technological insights and the latest updates on the global microfluidics industry, as well as the current development in microfluidic applications. The keynote presentation will be given by Dr. Jürgen Spinke, head of system integration at Roche Diagnostics GmbH.

The «Basel Microfluidics Matchmaking & Networking Event» offers contacts to industry and science professionals who are looking for potential partners in Switzerland, the Netherlands and other neighbouring countries to ensure sustainable business development and growth.

Jumpstarting Innovation Forum @Basel Life Sciences Week

Advances in genomics and proteomics, completion of the human genome, creation of bio banks, new scientific insights and development of «targeted» diagnostics and therapeutics have created tremendous opportunities for new companies to emerge. Nurturing these start-up takes great care and the right sustenance. The challenge for the founders are always ever-changing, some of the biggest hurdles beings setting-up up the company and acquiring the financing required to take a promising innovation all the way to the finish line.

The Jumpstarting Innovation Forum will be an engaging two-day session on the role of early stage investing, innovative models of funding and incubation, with a range of international speakers, from biotech companies and incubators to some of the top tier venture funds in this area as well as some of the leading pharma companies.
