Following its partnership with Ontoto, Astrocast SA, a leading global nanosatellite IoT network, is replacing legacy operators and providing efficient solutions for the mining sector in Australia. Similarly, Nexxiot has also partnered with the Australian rail consultancy RSA to provide Asset Intelligence and essential digital services to Australian clients.

Astrocast, a leading provider of satellite IoT (SatIoT) connectivity has partnered with Ontoto, an Australian provider of world-class telemetry solutions to the mining and environmental compliance industry. Ontoto has successfully integrated Astrocast’s Astronode S into its Vibrating Wire Data Logger. This data logger is being used with great effect across the mining sector to monitor mining boreholes remotely using SatIoT connectivity.

The Ontoto Vibrating Wire has been designed to monitor the pore pressures and static water levels in the ground surrounding a mining operation. This information is vital for mining operations to monitor the effects that their works are having on the environment – and for managing risks associated with mining, such as tailings dams’ failures. Coupled with Ontoto’s industrial cloud solutions, mining operations receive constant and effective data from the Vibrating Wire Data Logger. This data allows operational teams to respond quickly and effectively according to the information received, ensuring mining operations maintain environmental compliance. Astrocast’s SatIoT enables this data transmission remotely.

The Astronode S, integrated into Ontoto’s Vibrating Wire, offers seamless connectivity via the Astrocast satellite constellation, making it an ideal solution for mining sites located in areas with poor or no terrestrial connectivity. By partnering with Astrocast, Ontoto has decided to replace its previous legacy satellite connectivity supplier.

Nexxiot technology advances Australia’s rail industry
In the rail sector, rail operators aim to reduce bottlenecks and avoid breakdowns or derailments that cause unacceptable downtime and customer losses. Currently, Australian industries like mining, manufacturing and agriculture rely on a robust rail network with high reliability and efficiency. Rail freight is estimated to contribute around $6 billion to the Australian economy annually and employs more than 20,000 workers.

To address the current challenges in this sector, Swiss supply chain innovator Nexxiot has partnered with Australian rail consultancy RSA. Nexxiot technology enables the monitoring of operations including railcar maintenance and fleet utilization while also providing services for shippers and cargo owners. Nexxiot has equipped the fleets of major rail operators in Europe and the USA, where clients are already deriving value from reliable data and sophisticated analytics.

Nexxiot's unique combination of IoT hardware, software and AI powered services enable rail operators to increase fleet availability and provide full visibility to stakeholders. The goal is to reduce operating costs and increase service quality for more efficient, sustainable, safe, and compliant transportation of freight.

The ATEX certified Globehopper gateway enables operators to access location and other essential parameters. For example, it reports total mileage combined with impact events incurred during transportation. In addition, other services can easily be expanded by adding various sensors to address even more use cases. The Vector sensor monitors the status of hatches, doors, and handbrakes. The temperature sensor reports the temperature of sensitive cargo such as petrochemicals in tank railcars and the Loadtracker monitors the load status of the railcar and detects loading events.
