Swiss-Italan startup xFarm built an all-in-one platform to manage the complex needs of farmers, machinery manufacturers, and all the stakeholders in the supply chain. With more than 220'000 farmers relying on its platform, XFarm is now envisaging AI-driven innovations in its portfolio. The recently installed sensors on two important Polish farms use the new technology.

xFarm Technologies is a specialist in Agriculture 4.0 and digitisation and sustainability projects for agri-food supply chains. The startup built a digital platform to support and simplify the work of 220,000 farms spread over 2.7 million hectares in more than 100 countries worldwide. Early this year, xFarm obtained funding from EIC Accelerator. Part of it was used to develop xTrap, the automated IoT (Internet of Things) pest insect monitoring trap that is equipped with a high-resolution camera capable of monitoring insect species in a given crop field.

Developments continued at the startup- and in June this year, the company revealed two new features: Disease Recognition for the identification of plant diseases with just a photo and B2B feature FarmView, which, thanks to artificial intelligence, improves the performance of agricultural sprayers by bringing optical recognition to the machinery, enabling efficient use of plant protection products and new services.

Matteo Vanotti, CEO of xFarm Technologies, shared their core mission: "Our vision from the start has been to become a unified app that allows handling all aspects of farming—a virtual farming assistant that simplifies and optimizes operations." With an impressive retention rate, xFarm has demonstrated the true value of its digital agriculture services for farmers. Their platform empowers farmers to enhance time management, optimize chemical usage, and efficiently allocate resources, leading to reduced costs and improved key performance indicators aligned with sustainability goals.

New projects in Poland
As part of its growth strategy, xFarm Technologies aims to expand geographically, with a special focus on European countries, while also exploring promising markets such as Brazil. The startup is currently running two projects in Poland, one of the world’s largest producers of apples and berry plants. It has installed sensors on two farms; the Michał Bijak farm hosts a nursery of high-quality apple and cherry trees and produces apples. xFarm has installed several sensors to monitor insects and soil moisture on this farm. Łukasz Olczyk farm, on the other hand, produces as many as 14 species in its nursery, including raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Here, the startup installed sensors to monitor environmental parameters and the new trap for monitoring drosophilla suzukii.

Europe remains its primary stronghold, a testament to the numerous subsidies for agricultural development in the continent, which have facilitated the widespread adoption of xFarm solutions. The company's appeal spans from individual farmers to multinational corporations like Barilla, who seek advanced solutions to efficiently manage diverse crop types.

With an unwavering commitment to digital transformation in agriculture, xFarm Technologies is at the forefront of reshaping the future of agritech. Their scalable platform, combined with their vision to integrate AI and machine learning, ushers in a new era of precision farming, promising greater efficiency, sustainability, and resilience for the agricultural sector in the long run.
