Grand prize winnner 2022

Out of the 61 finalists, the>>venture>> competition jury has selected the top 3 startups in each of the six verticals. They will further contest to win the top position in their vertical as well as the grand prize. Registration for the award ceremony in June is open.

The latest edition of >>venture>>, one of the most long-standing Swiss startup competitions, is underway. Following the first selection round, 61 finalists presented a 5-minute pitch to jurors who chose the 18 most outstanding startups to proceed to the next round. There are three finalists for each of the six verticals: Finance and Insurance, Health and Nutrition, ICT, Industrials and Engineering, Retail and Consumer Services, and for the first time Not for Profit (NPO) Track. The first, second and third-place winners in the NPO track take home prizes of CHF 50’000, CHF 20’000 and CHF 10’000, respectively. The ranking for each vertical and a Grand Prize winner that will take home CHF 150k will be announced on June 26 at the award ceremony in Lausanne. Registration for the event is open.

The top 3 for each category are:

Finance and Insurance

Ascentys ESG – offers a SaaS-based solution for automated ESG assessment and reporting allowing for the smooth delivery of a clear, practical, actionable ESG assessment report.

Frigg – builds software for small to mid-sized renewable energy developers to upgrade sustainable finance and streamline the financing workflow.

Grape Health – as the first Swiss fully digital employee insurance, Grape provides faster service and more accurate pricing for customers based on new data points and machine-learning techniques.

Health and Nutrition

Diatheris – develops better therapeutic solutions to improve the management of type 1 diabetes, providing an alternative to insulin therapy for patients.

Lighthouse Tech – offers an intelligent eyewear frame to enable safe mobility for people with vision impairment, blindness, and spatial perceptual disorders.

metaLead – develops cutting-edge treatments against toxic metal poisoning such as lead (Pb). Its technology can selectively capture toxicants and not essential metals in patients with lead poisoning at various levels.

ICT

Bearmind – the EPFL spin-off develops helmet-worn sensors and software for brain injury prevention and cognitive performance monitoring in sports.

ClearSky – built an A.I. assistant that augments confidential conversations on local devices to ensure sensitive data remain inside the walls of board meetings, medical consultations or court hearings.

Empath – provides a plug&play over-the-air test solution for wireless systems to ensure the safety and performance of devices, allowing for production line testing.

Industrials and Engineering

Biosimo – uses a catalyst process to engineer low-cost bio-based chemicals to help reduce CO2 emissions and lead the transition to a fossil-free chemical industry.

Perovskia Solar – provides digitally printed perovskite solar cells that seamlessly integrate into electronic devices & sensors. The perovskite materials enable cells to operate in low-light conditions.

Voltiris – offers greenhouse growers solar modules that allow for double-land use of greenhouses' surface to generate electricity without impacting the crops' growth underneath.

Retail and Consumer Services

Clever Forever Education  – built CatnClever (CnC), a math and literacy app that uses AI to create interactive games for pre-schoolers.

NOW Care – developed a powdered formula that turns into liquid, foaming soap containing local plants and prebiotics. The solution also reduces plastic waste.

Viatu – aiming to promote sustainable travel, Viatu is building the first platform that enables anyone to book a connected trip within minutes, all in one place.

Not-for-Profit Track

Adaire Academy – connect companies with qualified African tech talents. The startup collaborates with the EPFL Extension School to deploy its online curricula and build a revolving fund to finance adult education.

H100 Impact by Hemlata – empowers young women from India's lower socio-economic strata through quality education to help them step out of their cycles of inter-generational poverty and achieve gender equality.

Openversum empowers local entrepreneurs in Colombia and Ecuador to provide safe drinking water by training them to manufacture and distribute water filters locally.
