Aeon Scientific is a Zurich based medical device company founded in 2010 with the goal to become a technology leader for wirelessly controlled devices within the human body. The company receives a research grant from the EU worth 460’000 EUR. Aeon’s role in the research project will be the development of a electromagnetic control system that allows for the manipulation of a single DNA molecule.

The EU has granted a total of 2.8 million EUR to a consortium consisting of six companies and academic institutions from five European countries. The overall goal of the project is the development of a research platform to investigate electromechanical characteristics of single macromolecules. Information related to physical properties of macromolecules will be obtained. The system will be applied for the characterization of DNA. In the multi-disciplinary project different technologies emerging from different fields including nanotechnology, biochemistry, and nanorobotics will be applied. The success of this project will lead to invaluable insights on protein folding mechanisms. Thus, the project opens new avenues in disciplines such as biochemistry, pharmacy, and biomedicine. Moreover, the development of new miniaturized electronic devices based on macromolecules as components will revolutionize the field of Information and Communication Technologies.

Aeon Scientific as a member of this consortium receives a grant worth 460’000 EUR. The company’s role will be the development of the electromagnetic control system that allows for the manipulation of a single DNA molecule.
“The project allows us to strengthen our secondary business line in the broader field of micro- and nanomanipulation for applications in life science laboratories”, said Dominik Bell, CEO of Aeon Scientific. “Moreover, our focus application in catheter steering that is based on a similar technology will benefit thanks to significant synergies in the development.”

Aeon Scientific develops wirelessly controlled devices to be used within the human body. As a focus the company is working on a new type of catheter steering system using its patented technology for electromagnetic manipulation. The system supports electrophysiologists during catheter ablation procedures for the treatment of arrhythmias, such as Atrial Fibrillation. It allows them to move the ablation catheter within the heart of the patient with magnetic fields. The improved control leads to better outcomes, reduced treatment costs and a higher number of patients that can be treated.
